20 Years in Motion

Twenty years. Twenty films. Twenty seconds.

Twenty years ago, it was just two of us, with a couple of laptops, desktop computers, and cameras, and a tiny office in Birkirkara. At first, we barely had any furniture, so boxes did the job. But we had lots of passion for telling stories, and that's what we did.

It's been twenty years. We're a much larger team, with way more equipment and a better office, but we're still here doing what we do best: telling stories on screen.

We made twenty short films, one for every year, and we're releasing them two a week over the next ten weeks to capture what we did throughout these twenty years and what we are still doing.

We hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed making them.

What's in the twenty

The films answer different questions.

Who we are. We open with the whole team. Meet the current motion blur team; editors, videographers, directors.

Our favourite work. Each one of us picked our own best-of and shrinked all into twenty seconds, or whereabouts. This is where you see what we are most proud of.

What we make. Six films, one for each thing we do — television and commercials, social campaigns, corporate video, line production, events, and casting.

Who trusted us. A number of clients in their own words. This is the part we can't write for ourselves.

New films land every Tuesday and Friday until 30 October. Bookmark this page — everything appears here as it goes live. Or follow along on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.

The films

01 · Meet the team

Released Wednesday 26 August

Twenty years of work, and none of it made itself. This is the room where it happens — editors, producers, crew, and the people who keep the whole thing moving.

Some have been here for more than a decade. A few arrived last year. All of them touched something you've probably already watched without knowing who made it.

02 · Television & Commercials

Released Friday 28 August

Thirty seconds to say one thing, and say it well. That's the brief on almost every commercial we've ever made, and it's still the hardest one to get right.

Two decades of TV spots and campaigns, from concept to final grade.

03 · Team Reel - Stanley

Released Tuesday 1 September

We asked every motion blur team member to edit their own 20-second reel. Each person selected each shot from their work at motion blur.

It's a difficult edit: what do you choose, and what do you leave out?

Stanley, one of Motion Blur's directors, made this first reel. He chose projects he worked on as a producer, scriptwriter, motion graphics designer, or as Director of Photography.

04 · Bernice Micallef

Released Friday 4 September

Twenty years of work means twenty years of clients — here's one of them, Bernice of Communiqué, in her own words. We have a long-lasting close relationship with Communiqué and have worked on countless projects together.

05 · Social Media Campaigns

Released Tuesday 8 September

We are inundated with videos on our social media feeds. You get about a second and a half. Social content built to stop the scroll: shot, cut and formatted for every platform it lands on. Vertical, square, sixteen by nine. Same story, right shape.

06 · Adrian J Mizzi

Released Friday 11 September

Twenty years means some clients have watched us grow up. 💬

Adrian has been one of those relationships: the kind where the brief gets shorter every year because the trust is already built. Here's what that experience is like in his own words...

Twenty years, told through the people who trusted us with theirs.

07 · Iris Micallef Mifsud

Released Tuesday 15 September

We have worked with Iris for the past six years, here's what she had to say about us and our work together.
